Mueller Father & Son Watercolor Portrait

When Josie approached me about painting a portrait of her husband and son, I was enthralled by the challenge. And, the reference photo was simply superb! There was so much motion in the clothing and emotion between the two subjects. Once I had the image sketched, I started with the skin tones. The color palette was generally light, but I did end up using a lot of ultramarine blue. Measuring the folds in the clothing, and working with the paper and color absorbency were the biggest challenges here. I was so pleased with the result, and the clients had tears of joy, which always fills me with happiness.
