Elliot Herbst Birth Announcement
by Anne Kostecki

When I was first asked to design my nephew Elliot's birth announcement, I was struck by an idea. I had designed his parents' wedding stationery, including the ketubah, a Jewish wedding contract. On it, I had drawn a Renaissance-inspired Italian filigree pattern, and hand-colored the design with Prismacolor markers. For this announcement, I used the linework from the ketubah as inspiration for a delicate filigree pattern surrounding the border of the card. I drew one corner, and then copied and reflected it to make all four corners. I paired the design with simple, understated, yet sophisticated typography. I chose two Pantone blues, and I designed a matching envelope with a return address. The parents were touched by the use of their wedding design in announcing their firstborn child.
The announcement was printed by SmartPress on white cover-weight matte paper, #120, with a matching white envelope.
